Strat Guitar Repair.?
my guitar has a wire that is white that isn't going anywhere. it attaches to one of the tone knobs. also i took off the neck and after i put it back on the strings touch the frets. do i adjust the truss rodd? idk what to do.
Hello there,
I am guessing you have a Strat. Here is a link to a wiring diagram of the Strat wiring. You can trace your loose wire to see where it should go. Also, if you have some other guitar, that site has other diagrams.
You only adjust the truss rod if the neck relief is incorrect. That is the only thing it does. If you screw around with the truss rod and do not know what you are doing, you can bust the neck. To check the relief, put a capo on the first fret. Depress the high E string at the 12th fret. For a Strat, you should have about .009 between the string and the 6th fret. If your guitar is close to that, do not mess with the truss rod.
A couple common problems with replacing the neck. Most likely you do not have the neck seated properly. If there is space between the neck pocket and the neck, you do not have it all the way down. That has the effect of raising the neck and thus the strings hit the frets near the heel of the neck. Also, there may have been a shim in the neck pocket that fell out when you removed the neck.
