is it easy to replace push/pull knob to single handle tub faucet.?

I have Moen push/pull knob style and I like to change to another brand single handle tub faucet. Is there compatibility issue I need be concerned? Will I have to do some major re-plumbing or is it a simple replacement procedure?
Wife has difficulty using Push/Pull knob while a single handle design would be easier and less strain.

You will have to change the faucet and it is faily major and involves plumbing work. The old faucet will have to be cut out and a new one soldered in. If you have not done this before, I recommend you call a plumber. Sounds like you are looking for a simple remedy so I won't go into the details of the plumbing.

Does the wifes difficulty stem from the fact that the fauct won't open or shut easily? This happens to Moens with time, they get calcium deposits on them and they will lose the smoothness of the motion. If that is the case with you, then let me tell you about a simple and much cheaper procedure to restore ease of operation:

1) Turn off water to the house. Pop the cap off the handle to expose the screw. Unscrew and remove the handle.

2) If your faucet has an outer hood, remove it.

3) Using needle nose pliers, remove the brass clip from the top of the faucet.

4) Pull the core straight out. It may take a bit of effort, but it will eventually come out. You may need to use either a little metal pin that goes in the side hole of the core stem or just screw the handle screw back in and use it as a grip point with a pair of pliers. Careful not to overpower or damage anything.

5) At this stage, you have two options. Either replace the core with another one from the home depot of Lowes or just clean the existing core. If you do replace the core, i recommend the all brass core over the plastic core. It is only a couple more bucks. Or you can clean and reuse the existing core if you want to. I recommend changing all rubber parts and the hardware store has replacement moen washers.

6) When you are ready to replace the core back inside, put a coat of plumbers grease on the core, it will make it move like silk without any leak problems. You get that from the hardware store too.

7) Push the new core back in, replace the clip, slide the hood back on, replace the handle, screw and screw cap.
