How should supplements and meal replacement drinks be digested for peak body building purposes?
Be careful when you use these, don't use them to replace your usual meals. Also remember that when working out intensively, your body burns a lot more calories and requires more nutrients to replenish those lost through exercise. Additionally if you find your sweating a lot, drink an isotonic drink (you can buy them in most shops or make your own by simply adding salt and possibly potassium if you can found in low salt). All that's lost in sweat is urea, ammonia, (which your body doesn't particularly need replenishing, though you should regulate your acidity level because loss of ammonia - which is alkali can make your body over-acidify. However if you pace your exercise and build up to intense exercise your body is more experienced and will still allow aerobic respiration as a pose to undergoing anaerobic respiration which burns up carbohydrate in your muscle. With building up to intense exercise, aerobic respiration becomes more possible and allows you to oxidize fatty acids - which of course are acidic and therefore your body can automatically regulate its own acidity and also not burn up your muscle) salt and water. Therefore as long as you are an experienced exerciser and drink isotonic/hyper-tonic (salt enriched) drinks during or after exercise you should be fine.
Concerning supplements, your body of course needs materials to build muscle from, and supplements provide the carbohydrate and protein you will need for this. If you drink or consume these supplements after intense exercise, your body will have a source of nutrients and resources to build up and repair broken or new muscle tissues.
Therefore i suggest you eat your usual daily meals, supplements foods after or shortly before you finish exercise, drink the usual 8 glasses of water a day (and add 1-2 glasses {isotonic} for moderate exercise and for intense exercise lasting longer than an hour, add 2-3 glasses {hyper-tonic}).
